About DisplayPixels
DisplayPixels is a free, browser-based toolkit that lets anyone instantly check the technical specs of their screen. Whether you need your exact screen resolution, refresh rate, pixels-per-inch, colour depth, or a CSS media-query snippet, every tool runs right in the browser with zero installs and zero data collection.
Who Built This?
Hi, I'm Tom Ashford — a front-end developer and display-technology enthusiast based in Europe. I've been building web tools and interfaces since 2019, and I created DisplayPixels in 2025 out of a simple frustration: every time I needed to quickly check a screen's resolution or PPI during a responsive-design session, I'd end up on a cluttered site smothered in pop-ups.
DisplayPixels is the tool I wanted to exist — fast, clean, privacy-first, and genuinely useful for the people who need it most: developers, designers, QA testers, IT support teams, and curious shoppers comparing monitors.
Why DisplayPixels Exists
- Developers & designers need to verify viewport sizes, device-pixel-ratios, and breakpoints across dozens of devices. DisplayPixels shows that data in one glance and even generates a ready-to-paste CSS @media block.
- IT support teams often ask end-users "what's your screen resolution?" — sharing the DisplayPixels link is faster than walking someone through system settings.
- Gamers & enthusiasts want to confirm their monitor refresh rate, check for dead or stuck pixels, or verify HDR and wide-gamut support before a purchase or after changing settings.
- Students & learners can use the resolution guide and PPI ruler to understand how screens actually work.
Our Principles
Privacy first. Every tool runs entirely in your browser. No screen data, IP addresses, or device fingerprints are ever sent to a server. There are no analytics trackers, no cookies (beyond what our ad partner requires), and no sign-up forms.
Works everywhere. DisplayPixels is designed to work on any modern browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge — and on any device from an old Android phone to a 5K iMac. No plugins, no app stores, no permissions dialogs.
Always free. The site is supported by a small number of non-intrusive ads. The tools themselves will always be free to use.
The Tools
- Screen Resolution Checker — full screen size, browser viewport, and device-pixel-ratio.
- Refresh-Rate Test — live Hz measurement with dropped-frame detection.
- PPI Ruler — calibrate with a credit card to find true pixels-per-inch.
- Dead/Stuck Pixel Test — full-screen colour slides and a pixel-jog fixer.
- Colour & HDR Check — bit depth, P3 wide-gamut, and HDR readiness.
- @media Query Helper — copy a CSS breakpoint tuned to the current device.
- Screen Resolution Guide — educational deep-dive from 720p to 8K.
